Civil rights 3/31

I beleive that civil rights is an issue however it is not a matter that is the utmost importance. However it is not something we can over look. I feel that no matter how hard we try, this economy will always be racist no matter how hard you try to fix it. Due to peoples opinions, it will exist in the tiniest form, however it doesn't have to be that way.

First off i think it's unfair that the senators are nominated by the president, then he could choose people that will easily lose and change the ruling off the senate. second people should at least cycle through instead of having the same person forever. third it is annoying to have over half the senate in the same ruling for years on end. that it is why i think it is unfair. 3/27

Grutter vs Bollinger 2003

upheld the University of Michigan Law School's consideration of race and ethnicity in admissions. In her majority opinion, Justice O'Connor said that the law school used a “highly individualized, holistic review of each applicant's file.” Race, she said, was not used in a “mechanical way.” Therefore, the university's program was consistent with the requirement of “individualized consideration” set in 1978'sBakke case. “In order to cultivate a set of leaders with legitimacy in the eyes of the citizenry, it is necessary that the path to leadership be visibly open to talented and qualified individuals of every race and ethnicity,” O'Connor said. However, the court ruled that the University of Michigan's undergraduate admissions system, which awarded 20 points to black, Hispanic, and American-Indian applicants, was “nonindividualized, mechanical,” and thus unconstitutional. I disagree. Due to the fact, that you give away where the work is that helped you and such to that extent would be like telling people who you were.

I believe he could try to have a bill passed but that's all.
